Challenge
The ESPN Tournament Challenge is a bracket game that allows fans to predict how the NCAA Basketball tournament will unfold. Millions of fans around the country participate each year with their friends and family to create the best bracket and win bragging rights. The challenge we faced with the legacy product was that it operated on outdated code, making it difficult to implement the updates our fans wanted. Some key criticisms from our sports fans included issues with quickly identifying their picks and determining whether they were correct at a glance. The older version relied heavily on color to convey this information, which created problems for individuals with impaired eyesight. Additionally, from a business perspective, there was no straightforward way to adapt the bracket games for different sports.
Approach
The team aims to redesign and enhance our mini-games platform by adding a Tournament challenge feature. This addition will enable us to white-label our bracket experience, allowing us to create customized sports brackets. I was tasked with leading the redesign of the bracket experience and updating the user interface.

Making it easier to see your selections and their success rate, boosting fans' confidence in understanding their bracket.

Guiding fans through the bracket experience and making it easier than ever to fill out entries with Quick Brackets

Seeing your bracket in Birds Eye view. Started as a passion project and transformed into a real feature within TC, allowing users to see their entire bracket.
The concept emerged from user feedback regarding the previous product, with numerous users expressing a strong desire to view their entire bracket along with all their selections in context. I presented this idea to our design team, as well as to the Product team and our stakeholders. The response was overwhelmingly positive; everyone supported the initiative and wanted to implement this feature as part of the new redesign.
